The eMatrix System is a neither a laser nor a light based devise, but utilizes focused beams of radiofrequency (RF) energy to produce results. Similar to Fraxel, it is ‘fractionally ablative’, in other words there are pin point areas of skin removal (ablation) surrounded by unaffected skin. This is where the similarities end, however. There are 64 beams of RF per square centimeter in the eMatrix creating miniscule tunnels through the outer skin or epidermis, but causing larger areas of heating below, within the dermis. The Syneron Company, the makers of eMatrix, calls this ‘sublative rejuvenation’. The RF energy heats the deep dermis in a way that makes the skin produce a wound healing response, which includes production and organization of collagen, production of elastin proteins, and resorption of excessive blood vessels.
The eMatrix delivers some of the most significant improvements that can be obtained without resorting to more invasive ‘fully ablative’ techniques. It addresses a wide range of skin issues including fine wrinkles, skin laxity, scars and acne scars, and skin texture and color.
Treatments require topical numbing cream to be applied first. After a short wait, treatments can begin. Typically, a full face and neck can be treated in 30 to 40 minutes with little to no discomfort, and total time in the office is about an hour. There will be mild to moderate redness after your treatment and this will last up to a day or two. Most people simply resume their usual activities after leaving the office. The skin will feel rough for a few days and then will become smooth and soft in a week. Results can be seen after the first treatment, but a protocol of three treatments is recommended about 4 to 6 weeks apart. eMatrix can be combined with intense pulsed light (IPL or Fotofacial) for maximum benefits.
The eMatrix System can be safely and effectively used on all skin type. Depending on the degree of sundamage and signs of aging however, subsequent or additional treatments may be necessary to achieve optimal results. My laser nurse specialist can evaluate you and determine whether eMatrix is right for you.
