Rhinoplasty: What Are the Cosmetic Benefits?
Rhinoplasty can refine the aesthetics of your nose and enhance the overall balance of your facial features. Whether you’re seeking subtle changes or a dramatic transformation, Dr. Minniti uses advanced techniques during rhinoplasty for:
- Adjusting the size and proportion of the nose for better balance with facial features.
- Refining the nasal tip to achieve a more defined or softened appearance.
- Smoothing out bumps or irregularities along the nasal bridge.
- Narrowing or reshaping wide or flared nostrils.
- Restoring symmetry to the nose after trauma or injury.
Rhinoplasty: What Are the Functional Benefits?
Rhinoplasty isn’t just about aesthetics—it can also significantly improve nasal function, enhancing your quality of life. For patients experiencing structural or breathing issues, the procedure provides essential corrections that go beyond appearance.
- Correcting a deviated septum to improve airflow and breathing.
- Addressing nasal obstructions caused by structural irregularities.
- Repairing functional issues from previous injuries or trauma.
- Alleviating chronic snoring or sleep apnea symptoms related to nasal anatomy.
- Enhancing overall nasal functionality for better respiratory health.
Rhinoplasty Surgery: Primary and Secondary
Rhinoplasty, whether for medical or aesthetic purposes, can involve minor adjustments or it may require a more complex and reconstructive surgical approach. Primary rhinoplasty refers to a patient’s first surgical procedure, unfortunately if the result is aesthetically unsatisfying or if there are complications with nasal functionality, a secondary or revision rhinoplasty procedure may be necessary. As a leading provider of cosmetic and reconstructive nasal surgery, Dr. Minniti’s approach to primary and revision rhinoplasty focuses on precise adjustments to nasal structures while maintaining harmony with the patient’s overall facial features.
Rhinoplasty: Candidates and Consultation
Rhinoplasty is a highly personalized procedure, and a comprehensive consultation is the first step. This initial meeting with Dr. Minniti is designed to confirm your compatibility with surgery and for him to understand your concerns and goals. If the procedure is right for you, Dr. Minniti will develop a personalized surgical plan that is customized to your specific needs, ensuring that you are well-informed about every aspect of the process. Ideal candidates for rhinoplasty typically meet the following criteria:
- General Health: Are in good physical health with no serious medical conditions that could complicate surgery or recovery.
- Facial Growth Completion: Have a fully developed nasal structure, usually around age 16 or older.
- Specific Concerns: Wish to address aesthetic or functional issues, such as nasal shape, size, symmetry, or breathing difficulties.
- Realistic Expectations: Have a clear understanding of the procedure’s possibilities and limitations and realistic expectations for the outcome.
- Non-Nicotine Users: The use of nicotine in any form constricts blood vessels. In order to avoid complications and heal properly, patients who use nicotine should refrain from use for several weeks prior to their surgery and during the initial recovery.

Preparing for Your Rhinoplasty Procedure
Surgery
For all rhinoplasties, incisions will be made on the bone and cartilage of the nose. However, depending on the goal of the rhinoplasty, the techniques used will vary.
Sometimes, all incisions will be made within the nasal passageways. In other instances, Dr. Minniti will use external incisions when reducing the size of the nostrils or narrowing the base of the nose. He will use small pieces of skin at the nostril base, making sure to conceal the cuts in the crease between the cheek and nostril.
If the goal is to straighten and narrow the nose, slight modifications of nasal bone positioning may be necessary. Cartilage from the nose or other parts of the body can also be laid upon the nose to increase its size.
Risks & Complications
As with any major surgery, there is a risk of infection, anesthesia reaction, and bleeding. Risks and complications specific to corrective nose surgeries are nosebleeds, discoloration, scarring, swelling, difficulty breathing, numbness and septal perforation.
If you are concerned about these risks, Dr. Minniti will discuss this with you so that you are as informed as possible.
Procedure
During the day of the operation, you will be taken to an outpatient surgery center. Before your surgery, an anesthesiologist will insert an IV into your vein to administer general anesthesia, which will induce sleep. After the surgery, the nurses will monitor you in a recovery area, and you will be given medications to control any pain you may have. They will then place dressings inside each nostril and a splint over your nose for protection.
You could possibly on your way home after just a few hours; however, some patients may stay overnight.
Recovery
You may wear the nasal splint for about a week. There may be bruising and swelling around your eyes, cheeks and nose, which can possibly start to improve about three days after your surgery. However, this may take several weeks to improve. Minor swelling may linger for months, but it may not be noticeable.
Seven to ten days after the procedure, you may be able to return to work. Two to three weeks after your surgery, there may be no recognizable signs that your nose has been reshaped. About three to six weeks after the procedure, you may be able to exercise.
Results
It may take a year for you to see the final results. However, within just a few weeks of your rhinoplasty, you may already be able to enjoy your new look!

FAQs: Rhinoplasty
Does the recovery from revision rhinoplasty take longer?
Yes, the recovery from revision rhinoplasty often takes longer compared to primary rhinoplasty. This is because revision procedures are typically more complex, involving adjustments to scar tissue, previously altered nasal structures, or grafting to restore support. Swelling may also take longer to subside; however, most patients can return to light activities within 2–3 weeks, just like with primary rhinoplasty. Dr. Minniti will provide personalized guidance and support to ensure a smooth recovery process.
How long after the initial surgery do I have to wait before undergoing revision rhinoplasty?
It is generally recommended to wait at least 12 months after your initial rhinoplasty before undergoing a revision. This allows sufficient time for the nose to heal completely and for swelling to resolve, so the final results of the initial surgery can be accurately assessed. A consultation and physical evaluation will enable Dr. Minniti to determine the best timing for you to undergo revision rhinoplasty.
